County of Wetaskiwin 09-10

The County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 is geographically centered in the Province, connecting a network of provincial primary and secondary highways to provide quick and easy access to and from major centers in Alberta.

The moderate climate in Central Alberta provides residents with an opportunity to enjoy the change of seasons. 

Spring brings gardeners much joy and with numerous greenhouses in the County including one year round greenhouse what’s not to love.  When the hazy days of summer are upon us be certain to take advantage of  the many camping and fishing opportunities at one of the six County operated parks.  Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year to drive through the countryside and enjoy the abundance of colorful trees in the hills and valleys.  Winter enthusiasts enjoy ice-fishing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, curling and hockey.

Rodeo fans will enjoy action packed weekend rodeos beginning in May and continuing every month until September.  Check the Calendar of Events listing in this magazine for places and dates.  How about a family weekend at the Lakedell Fair where young buckaroos can try mutton bustin’.

Golf at one of the several challenging courses located throughout the County with not less than five around Pigeon Lake.  Take in 9-holes or 18-holes, practice your swing at a driving range, check out the latest equipment in the shops, or take a lesson from a pro.

The year 2008 marked the Jubilee (50th) anniversary of the date of incorporation of the County of Wetaskiwin and a photo contest depicting scenes of the County was held in honor of the occasion.  Many beautiful photos were received and are used throughout this magazine.  Included in this article are the three winning entries: 1st prize Aaron Falkenberg, 2nd prize Christie Fuhrhop, 3rd prize Wanda Kapusta.
